What to look for
Known issues
- 2014 engine-replacement recall (991.1). After fires, Porsche replaced the engines of all 785 GT3s built at the time (per the cited sources). Sources: Published specifications, Road & Track
- Finger-follower wear (991.1, 2014-16). Road & Track reports Porsche traced high-rpm misfires to a metallurgical defect in some finger followers and added a transferable 10-year/120,000-mile engine warranty in 2017. Specialist Dundon notes that warranty has now expired for nearly every car, so a PPI should include a follower and cam-lobe inspection with photos and the engine series (E, F or G). A full inspection needs the engine out. Sources: Road & Track, Dundon Motorsports
- Warning signs of follower wear. Dundon lists high-rpm misfires, top-end ticking (late stage), lost power up top, and rising iron in oil analysis. Sources: Dundon Motorsports
- 991.2 GT3 (2017-19) not covered. These follower sources cover the 991.1 3.8 engine only; Road & Track reports Porsche tested the GT3 RS and 911 R without finding the issue, but Dundon disputes this for the RS. No fully read source covers 991.2-specific issues yet. Sources: Road & Track, Dundon Motorsports

- PDK: clutch-oil and transmission-oil change records per schedule
- Brakes: pad and disc wear; PCCB discs checked at every service
- Steering-gear and axle-shaft dust boots, tie-rod play
