What to look for
Known issues
- Less rust than the 308, but still check. 328s got Zincrox anti-rust coating throughout, but sills, arches and door bottoms still need checking. Sources: Ferrari Owners' Club GB, Published specifications, Classic Motorsports
- Cam belts (interval varies by source). Belts are a time-based item, but sources disagree: Ferrari Owners' Club says three years or 20,000 miles, Classic Motorsports five years, Magneto two years. Camshafts may need a top-end rebuild around 100,000 miles (FOC). Sources: Ferrari Owners' Club GB, Classic Motorsports, Magneto
- Electrics and fuse terminals. Test pop-ups, windows, A/C and fuse terminals; the fuse box is the usual culprit. Sources: Magneto, Classic Motorsports
Inspection checklist
- Belt invoices (sources give 2, 3 or 5-year intervals)
- Check oil cooler hose and cooler
- Lift inspection: sills, arches, door bottoms
- 2nd gear cold vs warm
- Test all electrics and fusebox
- Clutch, brakes, steering
Compiled from buyer’s guides and specialist sources; confirm with a pre-purchase inspection.
